Or maybe the universe just collapses on itself because of this question being thought of at all, which would be sad, because huge parts of what enjoy doing tend to take place there...:(

Sadly no universe collapsing.
All players vote. The player that plays this card may vote as well. Therefore, the card is always worth at least one RP.
Here's a step-by-step:
Greed Card is played by TC; all players simultaneously vote research or blend with their coins.
Every player (except for TC) will then receive 1rp if that player chose research.
Count up how many total coins are Research side up. TC receives RP equal to this total.
