I don't think, that Vanuatu is good with two.

When playing with three or more players, you always have the option to screw one player up - or to do something good for yourself. If you choose to block/hinder an opponent, all other players have the benefit, since both you as well as the player you block are not playing optimal.
So they are the ones who have the benefit.

This changes when playing 1 on 1: Since there is only one opponent, it is equally good to screw up your opponent as well as doing the best for yourself - basically you need to screw with the plans of the second player to block his attempts to make victory points.

This makes the whole game a totally different experience in my eyes. I prefer games, that are made for two. Those are the best for 2 player games, in my opinion.

So, if you are planning to buy this mainly for 2P games - don't do it!

If you are searching a game with the tropical island theme, try Hawaii, which works great with 2-5 players!
