We were able to get a few turns in this evening waiting for a late meeting to start with some colleagues abroad.Government and AUC reached an agreement that AUC would use the Defectors (54) event to help remove the Cartels from Santa Marta and Cartegena. AUC wanted a few resources and assurances that if AUC set up bases in Santa Marta and Cartegena, that the government wouldn't interfere with them at least until the end of the current campaign. As a result, I (FARC) ended up taking a limited op chance to terror in Huila, reducing it to Passive Support. I made this a priority to avoid the possibility of being locked out of rallying into my FARC Zone due to the initial Active Support status there.
Deserters and Defectors (54) became active and at first Government was unhappy because Plan Meteoro (13) was on deck, complicating the previous agreement. I was interested in having the Gov't-AUC deal go off to hurt the Cartels so I agreed I wouldn't implement the event. (It's not like the shaded event hurts the Gov't that much in any case.)
So as planned, AUC moved ahead replacing the Cartel units in the northern cities. Gov't paid AUC two resources to do this, as agreed. The Gov't also moved forward as planned assaulting in the two cities, but unpleasantly surprised AUC by airlifting troops into Atlantico and assaulting AUC's unprotected bases there as well, reducing AUC's base count from 4 to 2. The AUC player was angry that the Gov't had lived up to the letter but not the spirit of the agreement, and told the Government he would make sure the Government didn't win!
Plan Meteoro (13) then became the active card, revealing Unión Sindical Obrera(14) on deck. The Cartels, increasingly feeling the burden of stemming the FARC tide decided to terror in four departments, Meta East, Guaviare, Choco, and Narino, moving FARC down four spaces on the victory point track. Cartels left FARC with only a limited op, so FARC passed, figuring that AUC would take the event on the next card.
Unión Sindical Obrera(14) became active revealing Sucumbíos(33) on deck. AUC took the event as expected, and immediately opened up bidding between the Government and FARC, saying they would sell the right to choose the implementation the event according to the "reasonable" wishes of the winner. The Gov't valued reducing the Active Opposition in Santander to Neutral by six resources (the cost of the civic action) so immediately offered that much. I (FARC) declined to bid, already liking the direction this was heading due to my plans for my own upcoming action. However, this action again reduced my "Opposition+Bases" by four, for a total loss of eight over the last two actions (falling from 25 to 17).
FARC used the opportunity to strike against the government. Gov't resources were down to 23, already dangerously low for what should be expected to be a long campaign (15 to 30 cards). FARC sabotage/kidnapped on the three lower value LoCs that the Gov't failed to protect when reallocating forces at the end of the Propaganda phase, stealing 12 resources and reducing the Gov't to 11. I was still in the middle of deciding where else to terror when it was time to go to our meeting.
