How prominent does the Suez canal feature is most Turkish strategies? On average you'd need 2-3 rolls to get it but it is never guaranteed.

(When playing Henry the VIII in HIS I usualy need at least 5 wives to conceive young Edward so that is a lot of GV plays)

3 plays of Grand Vizier is also 12 regulars or 12 fleets nothing to be sneezed at.

I often see Edward conceived on the 1st or 2nd wife. Chances of Edward on 1st roll=1/3. Chances of Edward on 2nd roll=2/3x1/2=1/3. 2/3 chance of healthy Edward with either Anne Boleyn or Jane Seymour. Healthy Edward is of course 5 VPs. Actually odds are slightly better than that because if Anne rolls a 4 then your chances with Jane go up to 2/3. Moreover, of course, a roll of 3 gives you a bonus roll.

Suez Canal, chances on 1st roll=1/6 Chances on 2nd roll=5/6*1/3=5/18. Chances on either roll 1 or roll 2=5/18+1/6=8/18. Chances on 3rd roll=10/18*1/2=5/18. Chances on rolls 1,2 or 3 are therefore 13/18.

With Excavation, chances on 1st roll=1/2. Chances on 2nd roll=1/2*2/3=1/3. Chances on either 1st or 2nd roll=5/6.

Suez is 2 VPs and an extra card each turn. Probably will be achieved by turn 3 one way or the other so that is 4 extra cards if the game reaches full length.

I have also often seen an Edward on the first roll. Generally when I am the Pope. The few times I got to play England it took me ages to get Edward.
