Thanks for sharing your storage ideas. I'm currently going with the "lots of baggies" approach, which I feel okay with, but it's not ideal.

I decided to go to the local craft store and buy some foam boards and a foam cutter. The foam boards were messy as the foam flaked off constantly, but maybe that was the type of foam I purchased (store had limited selection). The foam cutter (heated metal rod) was expensive $20 but I figured if it worked I could duplicate my efforts for other games and then it would essentially pay for itself. Cutting the foam wasn't easy even with the foam cutter! Trying to cut out a square with a bottom (ie not cutting all the way through) was near impossible.

I'm not sure what your foam pieces were like. For replicating something like Battle Foam I was thinking of using a top piece (something like 13" x 13" x 1/2"), a bottom piece (same), and then the middle piece that has holes cut out for the models. That way I wouldn't be trying to cut partway. The bottom can be glued to the middle (so you end up with a bottom for each hole) and the top can lift off.
