I don't like the idea of the Colony Influence being visible, because it would make your Diplomat Commander an obvious target for Assasin Bombs.
He's always a target for assassin bombs.....

Anyways, the usage of "Captain Nuke" varies depending on which factions are used in your game. People who start with a Nuclear Commander are much more likely to start raining flaming destruction on the world in the first turn. I LOVE playing with factions! It's just fun.... Also the differing starting setups add a bit more replayability.

This is part of why I like this idea. Starting with Space or Naval instead of Land makes things... interesting.
