I just picked up a used copy of T.I. and both expansions and our group is looking forward to our first play through this weekend. Our first play through will be a 4-player game and hopefully be able to move to a full game of 6 in the weeks to come.
I haven't seen much talk concerning playing with a standard map or using the optional "large" map by adding a 4th Ring. Two questions:
1) What effect does the 4th Ring have on the game as a whole?
2) Even though the book lists the 4th Ring as a 5 or 6 player variant, Is there any reason why a 4th Ring wouldn't work with 4 players? (there are enough tiles, I counted)
Thanks in advance for any input.

I have played with the 4:th ring in 6-8 player games and I think I adds a lot to the game. More space means more planets for you, but in a 7-8 player game you will have to play with that 4:th ring because there is basically not enough space to put in more players. Any way getting enough space is always a problem in this game. Your neighbors often want a little more than there fair square of the planets. We are off course always playing with the expansions, these expansions will reward players going on the offensive early on.
