Unless one starts with or draws both Road and Colosseum early in the game, it is difficult to build Colosseum and use it effectively when plays against competitive opponents. Even if it is built, Palisades are everywhere since early builds of Brown/Yellow help increase influence. It is not easy to pull it off more than twice effectively, unless one also builds a Bridge. :)

In contrast, Concretes are easy to come by and Bridges can reach everyone, plus Walls are not so abundant compare to Palisades and people are less willing to build Walls.

Perhaps it is due to my colleagues and I usually play 4p or 5p games, this amplifies the effectiveness of Bridges. In the early days, everyone goes 'wow' when someone starts a Colosseum foundation, not anymore nowadays. All the attentions go to Bridge now.

I do agree that Republic is more enjoyable, but not for the reason of getting rid of Colosseum.

Glory To Rome, in either version, is a great game.
