This came up in my second game after receiving my black box edition...My son had built the the gate which allows marble structures to provide their functions "as soon as you lay their foundations."
He had already prepared for the building of the Forum Romanum, which he held in his hand, by acquiring one of every client as well as one of every resource in his stockpile.
His plan was to lay the foundation for the Forum Romanum for the automatic win.
However....
The marble building site happened to be the last available in-town site.
The question is....
Does the game end before he gets the benefit of the Forum Romanum?
The Rules state that the game ends when the last foundation is laid.
The Gate card states that the structure provides its function as soon as you lay the foundation.
If the scoring must start as soon as the foundation is laid is there time for my son to get the automatic victory?
If there is, he wins. If not, I win.
