So first they made the first edition and people loved it.Second they made an expansion for the first edition and people loved it.
third they made the second edition base game with slightly different rules than the first edition and it was loved.
Then people with the first edition said "but I want to play with second edition rules" so the "upgrade kit" was made.
The upgrade kit comes with cards and sleeves for first edition owners.
Then people with the second edition said "I want the pretty tin too".
So they came out with a tin for second edition owners with just card sleeves.
Then they came out with an expansion that only works if you either have the second edition or the upgrade kit to the first edition.
Oh yeah and everybody will love it.
P.S.
If you want to play the expansion from the first edition than you will need the first edition base game because of differences in card sizes.
